General course description

  • Vocabulary used in initial communicative situations;
  • Elementary level texts reading and writing;
  • Elementary grammar topics;

Specific goals

To guarantee the linguistic competence and performance through the practice of conversation and composition in the context of the Brazilian culture - Beginner level.

Units of study

  • Greetings: first contact, names, nationality, address, occupation, social profiles and you;
  • Meeting with people: classroom, leisure activities, schedules, getting together;
  • Eating and drinking: restaurant, bar, invitations, food, mens sana in corpore sano;
  • Hotel and city:  hotel reservation, service problems, orientation in the city, road signs, hotel and life style;
  • Living: houses and apartments, real estate, decoration, classroom, housing, home style and you;
  • The day to day life in Brazil: Brazilian calendar, poetry and art, your everyday in Florianópolis; (reinforcement activities in laboratory)
  • Grammar: verbs: ser, estar; verb groups : -ar, -er, -ir; indicative tenses; irregular verbs, articles, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, words of connection, prepositions and contractions.

General course description

  • Intermediate level vocabulary for communicative situations;
  • Comprehension and production of medium-level complexity;
  •  Elementary grammar topics;

Specific goals

To guarantee the linguistic competence and performance through the practice of conversation and composition in the context of the Brazilian culture - Intermediate level.

Units of study

  • Body: Health, looks, behavior, the look of art. Health club. Bodybuilders.  The nowadays feminine looks;
  • Labor: Labor rights,  jobs,  professions.  Culture and workplaces. Labor market opportunities and levels of education;
  • Clothing : dressing, shopping,  the social meaning of clothes, cultural similarities and differences. Fashion and Culture or Fashion and History;
  • Family life: kinship, family routine, family commemorations, historical and cultural aspects in Brazilian families. A concept of family for present days;
  • Tourism and ecology:  aims, types, protection (native population, environment, cultural heritage). Sustainable tourism. Is it possible?
  • Brazilian culture from north to south: regions of Brazil, influences in Brazilian culture, cultural traditions. How many Brazils can you see in Brazil?
  • The portuguese language in the world: Brazillian Portuguese language;
  • Other topics of the moment;
  • Grammar: Overview: the grammar of words,Articles, Pronouns, Adjectives, Adverbs, Words of Connection, Indicative tenses: using past tenses (Perfeito, Imperfeito e Mais que Perfeito); Pretérito Perfeito X Presente Perfeito; Indicative Tenses: Using Future tenses (Futuro do Presente e Futuro do Pretérito); The Participle; Active, Passive and Reflexive Voice; Degree (nouns and adjectives); Gender and Number; Sentences Structure in Portuguese.

To guarantee the linguistic competence and performance through the practice of conversation and composition in the context of the Brazilian culture - Advanced level.

Units of study

  • The weather and climate: climatic regions in Brazil, behavior, art, landscape.Ecology. Environmental damage and or versus Development;
  • Leisure: tours, popular music, football, media. Leisure X Violence/ Pollution / Intolerance;
  • Faith, Traditions, Culture in Brazil: Brazilian human profiles: the caboclo, the gaúcho, the paulista, the carioca;
  • Trade and services: Trade and services: possibilities and problems. Customer service SAC. Consumer Protection PROCOM. Sales people and consumer profiles;
  • Economic and financial context: Money and economic stability, banking, money management;
  • Driving in big cities: transport vehicles, urban transit, the automotive industry in Brazil, trafficability in cities;
  • The portuguese language in the world: Portuguese Language in Santa Catarina;
  • Other current topics from magazines and sites;

Brazilian Culture

General course description

Cultural activities with focus on the Brazilian culture essence, including the aesthetic expression in industry, popular and mass culture. Considerations on the Brazilian culture as well as introductory analysis of cultural and artistic manifestations. To provide a cultural immersion opportunity in Santa Catarina’s daily life and history.

Specific goals

  • To contribute with the acquisition of linguistic performance and competence.
  • To present and historicize the Brazilian nationality cultural origin.
  • To discuss the aesthetic view of Brazilian Regional Culture and art.
  • To elaborate activities that promote reflections about Brazilian cultural identity and its relations with other countries.
